Rev. John Crist Preaching This Sunday

John Crist was raised in the Los Angeles area of Southern California and attended colleges in Pomona and Orange, CA, receiving BA and BM degrees. He received his Doctor of Religion degree from the School of Theology in Claremont, CA, and was Ordained as a Minister in the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) denomination in 1972. During the 1960’s he served several churches in the Los Angeles area as Choir and Music Director, and Director of Christian Education.

Following seminary he was Pastor for Gateway Christian Church in West LA. His Clinical Pastoral Education experiences included correctional, medical, and mental health facilities. He came to the Pittsburgh area in 1977, and served as Protestant Chaplain of Mayview State Hospital near Bridgeville, PA, a mental health facility.  He retired after 25 years of service there. Since that time he has filled in as pulpit supply for several Disciples’ churches in WPA. He also practiced beekeeping for 10 years, producing honey and establishing apiaries for non-profit organizations such as Scott Conservancy in Scott Township and the Pittsburgh Botanic Garden near Oakdale, PA. He was married to his wife, Mary, for 43 years, before her passing from Leukemia in 2023.  He currently resides at Overbrook Pointe, a LutheranSeniorLife Independent Living facility in Mars, PA.
