Ten Thousand Villages Online Sale

October 25th - November 15th

Every year the Women's Association holds a sale the end of October at the church in Fellowship Hall featuring items made by women from all over the World. The money raised goes to the women that made the items to support their families and 10% of the total profit comes back to us to support a project in our own community.

This year will be a little different. The catalog will be virtual and there will be some physical catalogs to give out to people that would like to look that way. The sale will run from October 25th thru November 15th. The items will NOT be shipped. Judy Kercovich will receive the purchased items and set up a time when people can come and pick up their orders. You will have everything before Thanksgiving.

This is the link to the online version of the catalogue:

This is the  link to the online version of the store, where you can place orders:

https://ten-thousand-villages-pittsburgh.square.site/

You must enter the code FUNDZELI during checkout so TTV knows that the order is for the Women’s Association fundraiser.

Please email Judy Kercovich at jkercovich@yahoo.com or contact the church office if you would like a catalog. Please support the women in these Third World countries that work so hard to support their families during this difficult time.

Volunteers Needed For Food Cupboard

October 19th and 20th

Calvin volunteers are needed at the Food Cupboard on October 19th & 20th.

  • Oct. 19th (morning): Volunteers will receive food from the Greater Pittsburgh Food Bank (GPFB), stock shelves, and pack frozen food (Winter gloves are a good idea when handling frozen food). The GPFB truck regularly arrives at 9:00 a.m., but last month they delivered at 8:30 a.m. I'll have a better idea of the delivery time on the 16th.

  • Oct. 20th (9:00 a.m. — finish): Packing of non-perishable items

  • Oct. 20th (6:30 — 8:00 p.m.): Drive-by pick up. Clients do not get out of their cars. Grocery carts are used to take food from the building to the cars.

We are trying to limit the number of people volunteering at any time. If you can help, please contact me at 724-368-3455 or

Jacksorchard@zoominternet.net with date(s) and time(s) so that I can ensure all available spots are filled.

***As a reminder: masks are required for all volunteers

"Finding Myself in the Story of Race" Study

This study on “Finding Myself in the Story of Race” has been prayerfully designed to start faithful, honest and liberating conversations. It is not designed to change anyone’s point of view or transform anyone’s heart; that is God’s work, we’ll leave that up to God’s Spirit. It is however a tour through the biblical and historical realities of race. It will ask difficult yet necessary questions about where we are today, and ultimately where God desires us to be.

This week they will be discussing The Thoughtful Christian “Why Is It So Difficult To Talk About Racism?” and the movie Crash, which can be viewed on VUDU, Amazon Prime, Apple TV, and Fandango.

You can view the full curriculum here.

Join a Small Group at Calvin

Interested in participating in one of Calvin’s Small Groups as we enter the fall season?  Below are just some of the existing small group descriptions along with contact information.  Calvin is in the process of creating additional small groups for an Adult Education series as well.  More information to come.

Tuesday Morning Women’s Devotional Group — The Tuesday Morning Women’s Devotional Group meets via Zoom from 9:30 —10:30 a.m. The group reads a book and discusses it. We usually have a 4-6 week session per book and you can come in and join for that book. The books are usually announced a month before we start discussing it so you can order it on line. Marie Campbell is the group facilitator. If you are interested and would like more information about this group, email Marie at marie.l.Campbell@icloud.com. You can also call  724-282-4982 and leave a message and Marie will get back to you.

Devotional Notes Email Group — Marie Campbell sends off notes and thoughts on the books being read at the Tuesday Morning Devotional Group. If anyone is interested in getting these notes, please contact Marie Campbell and she will add you to the e-mail list.

The Men’s Room — This spiritual growth group for men, which meets at 7:00 a.m. via Zoom (occasionally hybrid), explores ways to connect faith practically in work, family, and other areas of life through conversation and reading a wide range of faith-based literature. For more information, contact Steve Fowler at 724-591-4602.

GIFT (Growing in Faith Together) — This is a women’s book group that meets Thursday evenings at 7:00 p.m. All women are welcome. For more information, contact Kelly Casey at 724-713-4854 or kncasey@gmail.com.

GraceFit Yoga — This is a Christ-centered practice that combines yoga postures and breath work with mediation on scripture for a time of worship, praise, and connection to Christ. They meet under the Calvin Canopy (while weather permits) on Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m. starting in September. There is a fee for each session. All are welcome…experienced or new to yoga.  GraceFit Yoga is a grace filled practice.  The yoga meets you right where you are, as does God.  For more information, contact Janette Marnick at janette@gracefityoga.com.
