Youth Mission Trips

Calvin Youth Group high school students with campers at Camp Westminster, June 2011.

Each summer our two older youth groups, which include students in grades 7 through 12, travel for week-long mission projects.  In recent years there have been three annual trips for specific age groups. Over the past 13 years, Youth Director Bruce Smith has led the groups on 30 mission trips.

Nearly all of these trips have been to Camp Westminster on Higgins Lake, Michigan, or to Wayside Christian Mission in Louisville, Kentucky. For more information about these organizations, please visit their websites:

TRIP #3 – CYG active members  (completed grades 9-12) and
possibly CYG2 active members (completed grades 7-8) – please read below, completely
Wayside Christian Mission – Louisville, Kentucky
& tornado recovery projects in nearby Henryville, Indiana
July 22 – July 28 (Sunday through Saturday)
$250 per student
RESERVATION DEADLINE: Friday, June 22
(contact Bruce Smith or call 724-452-7560, ext.14)
Payment Due: anytime after reserving / no later than morning of departure
This is an annual trip to Wayside that usually includes both age groups. But his year, we had determined back in January that we were being called to tornado recovery projects in Joplin, Missouri. This meant that only high school students could attend due to minimum age requirements.
Then, on March 2, devastating tornados struck all around our friends in Louisville. Bruce visited there in late April to investigate work opportunities, and we recently decided to return to Wayside as our “home station” and focus on tornado recovery efforts in nearby Henryville, Indiana (only 25 miles from Wayside).
This now gives us an opportunity to again include CYG2 participants (grades 7th & 8th), if we can get at least one more female adult leader. This is necessary because we would need to have a separate work team that remains at the Mission daily for work projects. The tornado recovery projects have a minimum age requirement of 16.
WE NEED TO KNOW IF THERE IS INTEREST FROM ANY RECENT 7TH OR 8TH GRADERS FOR THIS TRIP…
Please email Bruce Smith or call him at the church 724-452-7560, ext.14
adult leaders: Bruce Smith, Karen Stubenbort, Robert Stubenbort, Frank Baker
