Calvin Presbyterian Church has a dynamic program for youth in 4th through 12th grades. It is focused on growing spiritually by applying faith into everyday life, and living out the example of Christ to the world around us, including a significant summer mission trip program. It also exists to integrate into the larger church mission and fellowship, presenting the Church as a multi-generational family. Weekly meetings are an intentional mix of activity, discussion, and Christian life instruction – all encouraging participation and engagement. Many lifelong friendships are forged within this program, and many journeys of faith have begun and been nurtured here.
Regular weekly youth group meetings are on Sunday evenings at the church during the school year:
CYG (Calvin Youth Group), for grades 9-12, meets from 8:00pm to 9:15pm.
CYG2, for grades 7-8, meets from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
CYG3, for grades 4-6, meets from 6:00pm to 7:00pm.
Connect With God (CWG), a Bible study for grades 7-12, meets from 7:00pm to 8:00pm.
Calvin Youth Musicals, which occur in the fall, are the largest fund-raisers for our mission trips program. Usually open to students in grades 7-12, this annual musical is announced in later summer, with auditions and rehearsals starting in September. These shows are produced through the Calvin drama program, and have included the well-known titles “Godspell”, “The Sound Of Music”, “Into The Woods”, and “Jesus Christ Superstar.”
Calvin youth are also sometimes invited to participate in Calvin’s spring musical productions, as in 2012’s presentation of “Seussical The Musical”, which is scheduled to repeat in 2013.
30-Hour Famine is the hunger awareness activity and fundraiser for World Vision, a highly reputable national/international aid program. We usually have this event in the month of March.
Summer Mission Trips are a significant part of Calvin Youth Groups. Over the past 12 years, 30 separate mission trips have been offered to both high school and middle school students.
